For supplies there are a number of good supermarkets, as well as galleries and gift shops. Colourful fairdays or market days are still held on the streets where visitors, locals, young and old meet and chat. Many of the pubs provide bar food and present traditional Irish music nights, but if you prefer there is always a quiet corner to be found. There are a number of ancient heritage sites nearby, and in the town, a Heritage centre, in the old Royal Irish Constabulary Barracks, is a must see. Ireland's most famous son, The Liberator Daniel O' Connnell, was born at Carhen just outside Cahersiveen.
